Hello readers... This isn't Kathy, it's Marc... I had to post. I won't do this often. Just had a memorable bedtime experience and had to share.
Remember at the end of Terminator 2, as the "Silver Goo Terminator" is dying in a vat of molten steel? He tries changing into every form he's ever been to save his life, hoping one of the forms will save him from this terrible fate. He tries this, he tries that, he tries again, and again, and in the end loses. So, what does this have to do with Maddy? Let me explain.
Maddy has this amazing talent for a 2 3/4 year old. She employs strategies (and she's good at it) to avoid the inevitable bedtime at all costs.
She'll listen quietly to stories. She loves her stories. After her third story, her struggle begins.
"I have to make a pee pee."
"No, you're fine."
"I have to make a poo poo."
"No, you're fine."
"Just one more quick story?"
"No, you're fine."
She kicks off her sheets...
"You have to tuck me in."
"No, we just tucked you in."
"You have to tuck my pink baby."
"No, we just tucked her in. You tuck her in."
And then the crying starts... hissing and popping and screaming.
She gets out of bed.
We put her back in.
She does it again.
We do it again (oh, maybe 20 times total).
She screams, and cries, and sobs, and begs, and pleads.
But in the end, the lava wins.
Maddy, is she human, or is she the Terminator? You decide.

Hysterical! Jordan has been pulling some of those tricks lately, too. We always let him turn off the light himself and for a few nights he refused to do it, like if he doesn't it do, we won't do it instead! I always think of the Growing Pains episode when the little sister thinks all the grown ups and the older kids stay up and have a party when she goes to sleep. She imagines they eat candy and play wild games as soon as she goes to sleep. I wonder what they really think they're missing when they go to sleep.
