Ravioli

Marc's great-grandmother, Madalena, came from Italy to the US through Ellis Island. Our little Maddy shares her name because I thought it was so beautiful and such a wonderful tie to Marc's family history. Madalena also brought along with her (and probably the adults who came with her) a recipe for homemade ravioli. Ever since then, the family has gathered to make a very special ravioli dinner for Christmas. I'm sure the exact details have changed over the years, but the tradition continues with Marc, his brothers and his mother and now with Maddy. I think it is a beautiful family tradition and I'm so glad to be a part of it and to have Maddy take part in it too.

My family doesn't have a tradition like this that has been passed on for so many generations. Here are a few pictures of Maddy following in the footsteps of her great-great grandmother Madalena.

What a great tradition! Our family stays up until midnight on Christmas Eve before we open presents. At midnight we all eat tamales. One year all the girls worked all day to make tamales together...but usually my aunt makes them. Maybe I should suggest we do it as a group again. It's fun just to hang out and be together.
