A few hours, a storage tub and one full garbage can later and we are better than before. I didn't mind the mess, I needed a good excuse to go through everything and sort out old toys, broken things and lighten the load. I kept a few baby items for visitors, but the rest are tucked away. The hard part of the job is not picking up the toys, it's keeping Maddy from following me around and touching every toy I put away.
