We spent some time with Grandpa (Marc's dad) recently visiting the butterfly exhibit at the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum in the city (aka Chicago).
This museum has a wonderful butterfly haven with 75 different species of butterflies. They were beautiful, some with huge wings, some with tiny wings, some colorful, some not so colorful.
Maddy loved it. We arrived, by chance, just in time for a talk about the butteflies. Maddy wanted to sit right in front so she could take it all in.
After the butterfly exhibit we walked over to the Lincoln Park Zoo for a quick walk through a few animal exhibits and a ride on the animal carousel. Maddy had to ride the tiger, or tigress, as she calls her.
We have been reading and re-reading Bonjour Butterfly. Fancy Nancy ends up visiting a butterfly exhibit with her grandpa.

Maddy sure did have fun. It was really hot in there!! I loved the little button quail birds that ran around the flower beds beneath the butterflies. They were really funny to see. They're job: eat the dead butterflies. They can't fly, so they just hang out down there waiting for the butterflies to, well, fall.
When we went to visit my brother last weekend we went to their library!!! (You know me...) They had caterpillars and lots on cocoons. It was awesome! I was so enthralled by it. We went back to his house and I had to look up how they get into a cocoon and how long they stay in there and everything about monarchs. They whole family was interested and asking questions. It was awesome. Anyway, I told Chad I really wanted to go to the Peggy Notebart...now I have to go! I only have one week left of summer! :(
What about the Harry Potter exhibit? I wanted to go to that, too!!!!
We have been to the Butterfly exhibit at the Brookfield Zoo last year and absolutely loved it. Looks like you guys had fun too.
