Keeping Busy

When you share your space with a two year old, you have to stay busy. I have been combing through crafty-type blogs looking for things that we can do together. I used to love crafts when I was a kid, but I need the kind of crafts that can either be done in one sitting but do not take long, or something that can be done in short bursts over several short sittings. If I put something away entirely, I forget about it. I just need to put it away until I have another opportunity to work on it. So, I was flipping around and found a project making paper maché bowls. I used to LOVE paper maché, but I haven't thought much about it in years. A bowl is easy, since you don't have to build a base. I took a mixing bowl and covered it in plastic wrap, then Maddy and I shmeared petroleum jelly all over it, then we went to town tearing and dipping and wrapping. It was so much fun! Maddy did a great job laying down the paper and smoothing it out. Our paste (two parts water to one part flour) was a bit messy, but it cleaned up with a couple of towels when we were done. Our bowl is still drying, and I think we might do one more layer of PM, just to make it stronger. I can't wait until we can paint it! Yay for quick and easy projects!
Do you have a favorite quick and easy project? Please share!

Paper mache is so much fun! I made a paper mache picture frame when I was in high school. I love going to Color Me Mine which is a pottery painting studio. They have a store in The Glen and also in Deer Park. I just realized I could totally save money by making and painting my own paper mache "stuff". How cute would a Halloween treat bowl be?? Fun! Thanks for sharing!

Jordan and I just made fun pumpkins by ripping up orange paper and then glueing them onto a piece of paper to make a pumpkin shape. I remember doing this with my grandmother. Jordan didn't really get the idea of ripping the paper, but Maddy is older and I'm sure she would be able to do it. Then you can just lay down some glue and put the pieces on. I think this could be a pretty simple/quick project! :)
