Dress Update

I cut out Maddy's Halloween costume dress on Monday, just in time for my self-imposed deadline.
Today I started working on the top of the dress.
I added the criss-cross ribbon to the inset. This was my only alteration to the pattern. The original design calls for a zig zag of ribbon, but I thought a criss cross would be better for the style.
Nice choice, I think. I even planned to do this from the beginning, so I bought the correct amount of ribbon. Phew.

I also made my first boo-boo requiring a seam ripper. You will all be happy to know I didn't swear. I almost did when I thought I snagged the fabric, but it was ok. The instructions said to make a dart without specific directions on how to do such a thing. My dart was wrong, but I figured it out. The dart shouldn't show on the front like this, oops.
I actually got the sleeves on tonight, but I don't have a picture yet, more tomorrow. So far, so good, but the skirt and all that hemming still awaits.

I'm so impressed. I'm taking a beginning sewing class right now and you are leaps and bounds ahead of where I am! Someday I hope you be able to sew cute things for my daughter like you are doing! Her dress looks great so far.

I love the criss cross! Definitely a good decision. Now I feel behind, I was so proud of getting the pattern pinned onto the fabric. I think I can get it all cut this weekend and then start piecing it together and hopefully sew maybe the following weekend. Sewing is going to be trickier now that I don't have my sewing machine set up upstairs. :(

Look out, Project Runway! It is so cute, Kathy! How great you are able to do this for Maddy. She will always remember this kind of thing. My mom used to make our Halloween costumes and we loved it. Such a great keepsake, too!
