If you didn't read my post from yesterday, start there, that one comes before this one. I'm catching up on the last month and if it's out of order it's no good. Well, that's an exaggeration, it's just better this way.
Maddy went to a birthday party for a school friend at a local kids' play center. She tried out the climbing wall and went for it with her usual enthusiasm. She discovered that should could "fall," also known as let go, and the ropes and harness would let her float back down to the ground. I want to try.
Marc and I received several gift cards from school and parents so we pooled them together and treated ourselves to this great rug from Target. Target! I know, Target. It's a beautiful rug, 100% wool, and it fits beautifully in the room. I had an old Turkish rug (really from Turkey, my parents hauled it back from our stint there) but it just didn't fit the room. It didn't work for me. I rolled it up and stored it away and left the floor bare thinking that some day we would come across just the right rug. Here it is. Target rug, you complete the room.
The Star Lab visited our local library during the break. I had to sign up Maddy to go and kids were supposed to be 5, but I convinced them Maddy would love it. She loves space. Here she is with the blow up Star Lab behind her. You crawl in through a tunnel, lie down or sit and look at the ceiling. The gal did a good job showing us the current night sky. Pretty cool.
Two days before Christmas Marc bought a new car. When you say that out loud it should sound like the Price is Right- A NEW CAR!!! We went window shopping thinking that perhaps I would get a new car, but when Marc looked at the Toyota Prius while I checked out the Toyota Sienna, it turned into car shopping for him. That was actually my plan all along, since his car was 10 years old. Ok, it wasn't really my plan, but I really was just window shopping for now. I can't decide what I want. I think I'll wait for the Toyota Prius Wagon that is coming out later this year, only we should spread out our new car purchases a bit. My almost-8-year-old car can wait. Maybe a 2013 Prius Wagon will work for me. Marc LOVES his new car, it has wonderful bells and whistles and gadgets. We got it with all the fun toys, like navigation and iphone/ipod voice commands. Very cool. I don't have any pictures of him with it, I'll have to remedy that soon!
Christmas Eve.
We did a good job keeping the haul down to as few things as we could because she has so much and receives so many wonderful things from the rest of the family. I read on someone's blog about giving something to read, something to wear, something they want and something they need. Maddy got many books, a few outfits, lots of socks and underwear (in her stocking no less, how very motherly of me), a big wheel, a toy sewing machine, plus the teddy bear that Santa brought. That was pretty much it, and it was plenty.
The day after Christmas found us with around 6 inches of new snow. Our neighbors across the street have a new baby plus a girl around 2 years old. They went out of town for a week so Marc cleared their driveway of snow. He knew if it didn't get cleared it would turn into solid ice. He took his super cool snow blower and cleared their driveway, plus he helped another family down the street. My hero.
I love the backyard in the snow.
Marc and Maddy have been doing a lot of coloring together. Personally, I love the little candy canes.
Coloring with scented markers.
I am almost to New Year's. Check back tomorrow.
