Where There's A Will

This week we finally signed our wills. This has been a New Year's Resolution of mine since Maddy was born. It's done. I am feeling great relief to know Maddy will be taken care of in case anything happens to us. We also signed Power of Attorney documents, a Health Directive and Living Wills.

I share this with you because each one of you should do the same thing. I know you know this, and I am not here to lecture at all, just to say if I can do it, so can you. It's a tough thing, facing your own mortality, but now that it's done we don't have to think about it again, hopefully, for a long, long time.

Who should have a will?
Well, people with children most definitely need one, so they can name a guardian for their child.
Single people should also have them, so there is no confusion or hassle as to what should be done at their passing- especially if that person has a significant other.

Everyone over 18 should have a Health Directive. My mom had one and I am so very grateful she did. When the tough, unthinkable questions had to be asked, we all knew what she wanted. There was no doubting, no decision for one person to make. It was a huge relief for my family.

So, these documents are not for you, they are for your loved ones. Check with your parents, your siblings, your adult children and give a gentle nudge, if needed. They are probably thinking that they will get to it, someday.

That's it. Mike and I have got to do this! Thanks for the reminder. Having a kid really does change everything.
